Titleist AP2 Forged Irons reviews and discounts

There has been little comment, as eagerly awaited by members of the forum bunker and readers like this and our AP1s future revision of Titleist. Our Bag Drop article announcing these clubs has more than 50 comments and my follow-up field to reach 50 before the publication of this review. At the forum, people are being ready to buy, and ask questions about the AP2S and AP1s left and right. Titleist golf club VP Chris McGinley believes this is "the most technically advanced forgings ever made," adding that "the demand for iron is unprecedented in the category forging. Not from the border that Hogan has been much rumor and the demand for wrought iron. "

Titleist, always on top or near the plate "player" category has been simplified in 2008 simultaneously its product line and expanded its target market. ZB and ZM Although their models are still available for those who like the player and musclebacks cavity, the AP1 and AP2 are intended to cover almost the entire world of golf player on the PGA Tour Golf "candidates".

This review takes a look at the Titleist forged AP2S – the irons for the "skilled player" in Titleist language. The "expert golfer is anyone with a single right-digit handicap through the PGA Tour stars like Adam Scott. Like Scott, I've been playing for several musclebacks years due to its superior feel, tremendous ease of use, and strict requirements that kept my swing under control. Read on to find out what I think of starting fairly Titleist radical of even its recent past.

Design and Technology
The AP1 and Titleist AP2 were designed by veteran Peter Gilbert, designer iron nearly all the notables of the DCI in the past, under the direction of Dan Stone, the new chief of Golf Club Research and Development. Gilbert began with a new slate, leaving aside the well-received 775s and 755s and technology that had brought them to their present state. He looked to new materials, new ways and new processes and created a pair of revolutionary irons – irons AP.

The elastomer pad sits behind the club face and adjust the feel and sound. As seen here, appears to be much broader than it actually is.

Titleist AP2 forged describes as "advanced performance, multi-material, dual cavity, technical forged irons providing traditional solid feel, looks and shot control for the skilled player. "Uhm, yes. Let's break the marketing Mumbo-Jumbo to see what we've really got here.

The acronym "AP" means "Advan Performance", and AP2 is built with several materials, therefore, "multi-material." The AP2S are formed with a carbon steel body 1025. Laser welded to the back and sole, a pattern of nickel, tungsten lowers the center of gravity, creating an optimum CG location low and deep in the clubhead. The lower, deeper CG results in improved launch conditions, with consistent ball speed for distance control and optimal launch and spin for trajectory control. Titleist calls this a "break process through "and, in the words of Chris McGinley, says" do not have a back piece with such a complicated geometry or function been welded to a body forged. "Progress is the order of the lower chambers used by the likes of Callaway and TaylorMade.

An elastomer cushion and a metal plate cavity complete the list of materials. Both of these materials soften the feel at impact, adjusting the optimal pitch sound, and generally make everything feel a little sweeter.

The minimum displacement and varying the length hosel are evident in this photo, as is the line between carbon steel and nickel, tungsten box.

Titleist AP2 sees a "double cavity design. The cavity first is obvious: is the top of the club, above the elastomer cushion and below the top line of the club. The second cavity is hidden by the table of nickel, tungsten. Both chambers push the weight to the perimeter, improving forgiveness off-center shots. The cavity is less "covered" with what the Titleist accounts "member of the central cross." It's a metal platform that connects the back the cavity of the club face directly behind the impact zone, and improves the rigidity of the clubface rather thin, while in cooperation with the cushion elastomer to minimize vibration face.

Finally, the plant itself has been optimized for the best players. Although the plant is a bit wider than Most good players are accustomed to, which has a trailing edge relief and optimized rebound in pursuit of a delicate blend of forgiveness and playability to the best player.

Aesthetics
Best players for a little good care of the aesthetics of a club, and say that the look of the AP2 has been the subject of many discussions would be an understatement of considerable proportions.

If the metal insert on the back with the Venetian blind eye, the "Silver" AP2 "Logo on the top of the box of nickel, tungsten, or simply the impression of seeing a Titleist iron with a graphic theme," " in it, do not know. After all, the 775 and 755 were not exactly austere and simple in appearance, either, what with the back of colors and aluminum bars and things.

Personally, I came to like the look of the AP irons, and find that just look a bit cuter in person than JPEG on the Internet. Not that it matters much – not see any of the back cavity inserts or stickers finger in the direction. It is simply there to "bag appeal", and if you like it or not, is undeniable the AP2 recognizable.

In the address, AP2 has a top line significantly thicker than musclebacks've been playing in previous years. The thickness is on par with other expert players cavity backs like the Cleveland CG Red, TP TaylorMade R7, and is barely thicker than even 695.CB Titleist ZB or their new models. In addition, the top line a little thicker hides the back of the club, has a clean look at address.

The accounts have what AP2S Titleist appearance of "inspire confidence". They are contemporary, with a glossy surface groove lined with polished steel tip and heel. They have a profile traditional union between a piece of gently flowing hosel and low displacement. The hosels itself vary in length throughout the whole: they are shorter in the long irons to help promote the launch, and already in the short irons to help control the trajectory.

The body simply continues the clean look in the direction and coincides with the simple, one-step aspect of the project activities right in X through the stock Tour Velvet grip.

Performance
Again, I've always played musclebacks by the comments provided. If I play a cavity back iron – even the "good golfer" cavity back, like the Taylor Made R7 TP or the Cleveland CG Red – my game and swing quickly suffer from the lack of feedback. Changes poor are rewarded with decent shots and a generic "feel", and my ballstriking suffers. I can not play the variety of shots, I like to play some golf. After falling short, scoring subtle, my swing and my score suffers place.

The backs of the clubs have an aluminum medallion that helps tune the sound and feel.

In other words, I learned to keep golfer away from "good" back of the cavity. I need all the feedback I can get and it is essential to keep my swing in tune.

So it was with some trepidation that first hit the AP2S. To be honest, Titleist ZM and ZB models looked more like my alley. But long muscleback players and traditionalists like Adam Scott had made the switch to the AP2, so who was I to argue?

Nobody that's who. Although my first impressions were quite positive, I just came to like and appreciate more when used AP2.

With other clubs in this category (R7 TP, CG Red), only the worst Feedback transmission photos enough to let me know that I had beaten the ball. Contact near the center of the face (but not necessarily in the sweet spot) all tend to feel about it and rather boring. I need not have worried about the AP2S, providing almost all the comments I have come to expect from my plate muscleback. Every bit Feedback is transmitted, although in the form of silence. If you listen closely, you can discern the difference between a good and a powerful shot that just missed. I found that practically impossible with the others, but the AP2S excel in this area and I can not say enough.

For those times when you find the sweet spot, the contact can not be described as smooth as butter with a muscleback, but it's awfully close. I'm not sure I've heard of Iron "crack" with the greatest clarity and power as these do when you catch one on the sweet spot, either, but it's music to my ears. lose a little and, again, a tone of tone a bit off lets you know different.

The 3 -, 6 – and 9-irons. Watch the 3-iron top line. When I say "thick" line back, I mean "just".

Comments on my success is great, but it is also nice to discover that the AP2 is not severely punished for my small successes. Please contact ½ "to the tip would lead to his golf ball landing short and right into a bunker with, say, 695.MB Titleist, it will strike the ball and AP2 on the edge or the right front of the green. This seems to be some contact in the face: the AP2 consistently outperforms all musclebacks I played and played a good number of "good" cavity-back irons well.

If you're used to working the ball, the AP2S not disappoint. Although I was skeptical at first control the quantity and viability of these irons to make, I found that I had to make some adjustments to not play when you take the curve left or right or go higher in the air. These clubs do not hinder my ability to hit the super-low shot, as when playing out of the trees, but this is somewhat mitigated by the Project X-Axis It is a low shaft, so that played into the wind shots need not be knocked down such a large part, limiting the number of times you are forced to fly the ball very low.

I just had one last concern: the greatest discretion. In fact, the only game thinner than it appears due to the relief trailing edge. Having played in wet conditions, dry conditions, tilt / PoA streets and streets of Bermuda, and all kinds of lies (which I prefer not speak), I found my concerns to be unwarranted. I can still choose the ball out of the layer is hard or difficult. I get to the ball when it is raw. I can even hit the ball a little heavy, no real damage. If I'm opening or closing the face or move the ball up or back in my stance, I never felt that it was unique in the way or hinder my ability to take a shot, and in the case of the ever so slightly heavy shots, he felt as if I plan provided only the enough to move to the back of the ball, without losing much head speed.

One of the things that may not be aware of is that the slots in the Titleist AP1s and forged AP2S meet specifications revised proposals. While I applaud Titleist to treat their customers well (you can buy these irons reasonably comfortable in the knowledge that they should meet the revised standards), it took me a while to get used to having to deal with fly again. Learn how to judge a lie is not a skill wheel a lot of players have learned, but is a skill that is quite easy to take and may well be something that all golfers is very soon.

In the end, the AP2S have what I consider a little more perfect blend of forgiveness and playability feedback. Before, my options were with clubs muscleback Many of the comments that I craved but clubs virtually no forgiveness or repayment cavity that transmits little or no information to me in my light hits but rewards the mis-hits, with good results. The AP2 offers me the best of both and not have to throw my creative ability against the wind or to access the pins collected.

Specifications
The AP2S MLAs come with Project X, Tour Velvet grips, and a set of eight irons (3-PW) with the lofts and lies below. Retail pricing is around $ 999. Are available for both right and left handed.

The irons are Titleist, though, so the custom options abound. Skilled You can customize the length of 2 inches to 1 inch (1-handed "to -½"). Lofts can be adjusted + / – 1 °, and right-handers can adjust the angle of lie 4 ° to -2 ° (+ / – 2 degrees for lefties).

I'm a fan of multicomponent New Decade grip, so mine came with them. You also may decide to replace the standard Tour Velvet Grips with Pride as dual durometer, ribbed velvet Information, Tour Velvet Cord, and Lamkin Tour Wrap or handshakes as the Cable Crossline and Crossline, or grips like Winn RF Black or V17 AVS.

Axis include various options both in graphite (Aldila VS Proto-T in various weights, Graphite Design YS-IRON + w / TAG) and steel (Project X Project X Flighted, Rifle, Nippon NS Pro, Tri-Spec, Dynalite Gold, Gold, with Dynalite Sensicore, Dynamic Gold, Dynamic Gold HL and more).

A 51 ° "W" wedge is available, and eight iron "4-W" sets are available for those who prefer not to a 3-iron.

Loft Lie Offset Length Swingweight
—- — —— ———— ——
3-iron ° 21 60 ° 39 "D2 0.160"
6-iron 31 ° 62.5 ° 37.5 "D2 0.120"
9-iron 43 ° 64 ° 36 "D2 0.090" Lofts are rather traditional clubs. Can be frustrating as appears to be a degree less loft than normal in some plates, but I can assure that the tungsten nickel box lowers CG and increases the flight of the ball slightly to compensate for the attic stronger. The distance should remain consistent unless your current irons "trap" with super-strong lofts.

Overall
While Titleist has long been an "evolution" phase (see 690MB -> 695.MB -> Lineage ZM), with slight modifications to the designs tested, the AP1 and AP2 represent a revolutionary break from the old and a bold new direction for Titleist.

Revolutions do not come without risk, but this risk has received the penalty for Titleist. The AP2S are some of the best "skilled player" no muscleback irons I've played. They offer the perfect combination of forgiveness and feedback you need good players. If you can overcome the slightly thicker top line and often do not need a super-hit low shot, these clubs may well find their way into his bag. If they do, their results should drop, its consistency should be lifted, and satisfaction may well peaked at all time. Be as mine has.
