Audience – What is hearing loss?

Myth: To clean the ears, only cotton swabs, keys, or my fingers working

Truth: Do not put anything in your ear that is smaller than your elbow

Many people think they should clean their ears, like our bodies stay healthy. While ears need to be clean, wash in reality. How? The skin of the ear canal (cerumen) moves outward and acts as a protector delicate eardrum. Many times, prick, sting, or picking at this material pushes back, causing blockage and potential temporary hearing loss – or even the accidental puncture of the tympanic membrane. In this case, serious injury to the bones of hearing may result in the need for emergency surgery.

And if the itching ears are often incorrectly relieved using cotton swabs repeated scratching can cause a thickening of the ear canal, as a callous. This pushes the wax deeper into the ear canal.

However, some channels do not remove ear wax, as is supposed to – too narrow, so the natural cleaning process can not do its job. In this case, the wax builds up. So how to know if your ears are cleaned well?

If your ears are not clean, they may feel sticky and may be tempted to grab that key or cotton swab. And if the wax completely blocks your ear canal, may experience hearing loss. But do not take matters into their own hands! Visit your ENT (ear, nose and throat) doctor, who can safely remove the accumulation wax.

But if you want to try to alleviate the wax at home, gently clean the outside of your ear canal with a damp washcloth. If your ear still feel blocked, you should call your doctor and remove the earwax.

The next best thing is to gently irrigate the ear canal with 3% hydrogen peroxide, using a small rubber syringe. Then dry the ear canal with a hair dryer with an average temperature, high temperatures can cause temporary dizziness stimulation channel balance right.

Myth: If my ear hurts, I have an infection

Truth: The pain is usually caused by something less serious

A major cause of earache is an inflammation of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). The TMJ joint is adjacent to the channel ear. Because of this proximity, they share many of the same pain nerves.

Swimmer's ear (otitis externa) is another common cause of earache. It is the result of becoming the ear canal and kept moist. This warm, moist, dark environment is the ideal place for bacteria and fungus to live and multiply, causing infection.

Another cause of earache is otitis media, a middle ear infection. This infection occurs after of an upper respiratory infection reaches the middle ear through the eustachian tube.

Neuralgia, an inflammation of the nerves around the ear, can cause excruciating pain that feels like jabbing or stabbing pain inside the ear.

So how do you know what is the cause of ear pain?

The ATM is shown if you press on the jaw joint when opening and closing the mouth and wounds or tender. An ear infection from swimmer may be your problem if pulling gently in the external ear hurts.

Otitis media and neuralgia are generally accompanied by serious pain originating deeper in your ear. Otitis media is usually accompanied by discharge of pus in your ear canal through a hole in the eardrum.

By now you're wondering, I Try some of these problems myself?

Although inflammation ATM should be administered by a dentist, can temporarily relieve the discomfort by eating a diet soft, place a heating pad on the jaw to the affected joint twice a day, or taking anti-inflammatories. But if the pain persists after a few days of home treatment, you should consult a dentist specializing in TMJ pain.

Swimmer's ear can be prevented by filling the channels ear with alcohol after each bath. Leave the site for a couple of minutes, then drain and dry alcohol ears with a hairdryer in average temperature. Once the swimmer's ear infection occurs, there can be a tendency to recurring ear when it gets wet. Then it's even more important for the treatment their ears with alcohol after each swim.

If pain is important and comes from deep in your ear, you should seek treatment by a physician ENT immediately. Using special instruments, the doctor cleans the ear canal and prescribe antibiotics (either in drops or oral medications) to remove any infection.

Myth: Popping my ears is dangerous

Fact: Popping your ears is rarely dangerous

While you may have problems with their eustachian tubes – the part of the ear that "Pops" – rarely is the act of popping them the problem.

What are some of the problems you might encounter with your eustachian tube?

One is blocked fallopian tube. The eustachian tube connects the ear cavity medium throat, middle ear aeration and drainage swallowing secretions and middle ear mucosa in the throat. Often, a cold or sinus infection causes the membranes of the eustachian tube to swell. When this happens, the eustachian tube is unable to function, causing pressure and congestion in the head. Your
audience may feel diminished, and fluid can build up in the middle ear.

Another potential problem is abnormally open (patulous) Fallopian Tube. This is a rare cause of ear congestion usually occurs when someone loses weight. When the Eustachian tube is open, can cause feeling that their voice is strong or has an echo (autophony) as if you were inside a drum. It can also cause air feeling hearing "buzz" when breathing through the nose.

So how can you tell if you have locked, or open the eustachian tubes?

Pinch the nasal nose shut and blow hard against them. If you can not "pop" their ears, their eustachian tubes are probably blocked by inflammation of the mucous membranes. However, if you suddenly feel the pressure relief you've just opened their eustachian tubes and equalize middle ear pressure with ambient air pressure.

This maneuver can be performed many times during the day to relieve a blocked fallopian tube. No danger of damaging their ears with this technique, but if you get dizzy you should see your ENT (ear, nose and throat) doctor.

To diagnose the eustachian tubes open, sit and bend completely to the waist, putting
his head between his legs. If the pressure and congestion in the ear that have gone open the eustachian tubes. Lying in bed to relieve symptoms of eustachian tube opening.

If popping your ears, leaning forward from a sitting or lying position do not relieve the pressure ear, the problem may be due to increased inner ear pressure and should be evaluated by an ear specialist.

If you have blocked fallopian Eustachian over-the-counter medications such as nasal sprays can help reduce the membranes, relieving pressure in the ears. Flying in an airplane, diving, or
diving should be avoided if there is blockage of the Eustachian tube, such as landing or falling in water will result in a sharp pain in ears. If you must fly, taking Afrin ® nasal spray (two sprays in each nostril) and one tablet of Sudafed ® 30 mg one hour before descending. This will help to open their Eustachian tubes, to help prevent ear pain. If symptoms persist, you should consult your ENT doctor.

Depending on the cause of the eustachian tube open, The otolaryngologist may recommend several different treatments. Treatments for increased inner ear pressure are diuretics or prescription surgery office to deliver steroids in the inner ear.

Myth: Loud noises will not hurt me because I'm young

Truth: Loud noises nobody can harm hearing, regardless of age,

Ear damage may result in exposure to loud noises such as firearms near ear, sounds industrial, lawn and construction equipment, and music played too loud – especially through headphones.

But, How do you know if you have hearing damage? If you hear noise, congestion, or hearing loss after noise exposure, damage to the delicate cells of the cochlea, has probably occurred.

Unfortunately, most hearing damage is permanent, so the best treatment is prevention. Ear protection must be used in any situation of noise:

• noisy working environments

• When using power tools and yard equipment noisy

• During the use of firearms

• when on a motorcycle

• when exposed to loud music at concerts

But hearing protection need not be bulky or ugly. Earplugs are almost invisible today, and ear muffs can be mixed, if used in winter. Top earplugs are also available to ensure
optimum fit in the ear canal. In addition, some devices have personal listening volume limits, avoiding excessive exposure to noise.

The good news is that in some cases a short course of steroids may reverse acute hearing damage.

Myth: There is no treatment for tinnitus, I just have to live with it

Fact: Many treatments can help people with tinnitus

Tinnitus is a common audience complaint about – over 50 million American adults have some degree of hearing impairment. Tinnitus occurs when the little hair cells in the cochlea death, causing noise or ringing in the ear.

While this call is not a serious problem, people that experience should be evaluated by an otolaryngologist, as it may indicate a more serious medical problem. When evaluating for tinnitus, your doctor will perform special tests to determine the cause and recommend treatment if necessary.

So what kind of treatments are available for people with tinnitus? At present, several treatment options exist, including

• Masking tinnitus with external noise such as music or television. If tinnitus is accompanied by hearing loss, hearing aids may increase the external noise, reducing the intensity of tinnitus.

• Low salt diet.

• Electrical stimulation.

• Stress reduction.

• Bio feedback.

• zinc, ginkgo, pills garlic and antioxidant supplements as a high level.

• Brain recycling, in which a therapist will work with you to train your brain to hear the tinnitus.

Moreover, given that tinnitus is not life-threatening problems can help you cope.

Myth: My parents were deaf, so I am obliged to go deaf, too

Truth: Heredity is a factor in hearing loss, but not a certainty

Hearing loss is a combination of many factors: exposure to loud sounds, general health, heredity and age. We are products of our genetic family and the loss of hearing is no exception. And as we age, hair cells of the cochlea that are closer to the middle ear begin to die, resulting in a high tone loss of hearing. But no one factor plays a more influential role than the others, so no one is "doomed to deafness.

Typically, a gradual process, hearing loss can occur quite suddenly – even overnight. If you suddenly notice that you can not hear in one ear, is a medical emergency. Put the phone to your ear, if you can not hear the dial tone, consult an ENT specialist as soon as possible. It is hoped that the ear wax is blocking the ear canal, but it is necessary to visit a ENT to know for sure.

More gradual signs of hearing loss include

• Need to turn on the TV or radio appeared stronger than other family members

• Ask people to repeat themselves all the time

• Her husband says he does not listen to him or her

• Sound off, or distant

• You have trouble hearing from a cell phone

While hearing loss is certainly disappointing and inconvenient, it can be treated. Examination by an otolaryngologist is necessary to make the correct diagnosis. This usually includes a hearing test and other special hearing tests.

Once the diagnosis, treatment can begin. Treatment Sudden deafness is done with steroids either taken orally or placed directly into the ear. In addition, a hearing device may be needed.

Treatment to the loss most common, progressive hearing that can reduce symptoms and effects includes a four-part program of lifestyle changes, healthy life including

• At least 30 minutes of exercise daily,

• vitamin and mineral supplements,

• A healthy diet vegetables, fruits, whole grains, fish and lean meat, and

• Protection from exposure to excessive noise.

Myth: There is no treatment for deafness in one ear

The truth: there are two successful treatments for hearing loss in one ear

There are two hearing aids that allow a person to listen to a deaf and earCROS Baha.

CROS (Contra lateral conduction of signals) or Bi-Cros is a headphone that uses microphones to pick up the sound from the deaf and transmit it to the hearing ear. As a result, the CROS aid allows sound is heard from all directions, and even allows a phone to be used in the deaf ear.

BAHA (bone anchored Hearing Aid), or bone stimulator, picks up sound from the deaf ears and passes through the skull to the hearing ear. Minor surgery is required to implant a titanium screw behind the ear, which serves as an anchor for the external processor, which has the device. The results are excellent.
