How do you know when a bat is dead?

I bought my son a new recording of the Youth Miken baseball bat from 06 July. He has used it maybe 10-12 times. Your coach said that the new bat is dead because it does not ping when you hit the ball. Has a pop sound. Some have told me it sounds so different because it is made of the same material as the TPX and some of the other bats are popular. Trying to be sure that the bat is really died before forwarding and my son does not have a bat in the season.

WHeR have them bought from who can best tell every company has a different way to bats .. could also be in the club hits the ball cogens might not hiting on the sweet spot
