Prefabricated vs. Custom Cabinets
As a custom cabinet manufacturer, designer and installer, working for www.CabinetsEtcOC.com I installed my two cabinets and custom cabinets for contractors who have purchased through stores or directly from original manufacturers.
I have found that most 90% of my prefabricated facilities are poor with damaged or incomplete misordered orderly cabinets. Worldwide, large manufacturers supplying prefabricated hundreds kitchens a month. When there is a problem with your order, the customer waits and waits usually about six weeks before the order is corrected with a new shipment. In the meantime all related installing the kitchen is on hold, such as countertops, splashes, owners of plumbing, etc. Many begin to feel frustrated at this point and start to lose confidence in its contractors. Contractors who buy prefabricated cabinets do not want you to know about these potential problems.
So why contractors continue to buy these manufactured homes? The cost is the number one reason. I used to build cabinets for a remodeling contractor, who, to save the money began buying manufactured homes. When I say "save money", I refer to the contractor. The contractor will make these cabinets so high, that were doing a great benefit and the burden on usual prices. I must admit that when these cookers is finally (months later) looked good, but the final cost, wow.
However, I installed these cabinets for them. I saw firsthand how they were constructed and the materials used. These companies, which I shall not name, the materials used, like, 1 / 2 "particle board with simulated wood vinyl sheet and 1 / 8" hardboard supports. Solid Wood used, sometimes it was so twisted rockers could do with it. Almost all use hot glue and staples to fix corrugated under face. We had to have care of the installation of these cabinets delicate. Drop one and it most likely would collapse. I think that is why a full transfer of these prefabricated houses always have one or two appear with some damage.
Now I know that these manufacturers do not deliver great selection of materials for the cabinets. They use what ever is in its wooden stock. They must be actual prices, so that materials and crafts play an important role in their manufacturing process. Make constructed so fast as possible, with minimal cost.
Enough about the prefabricated, let me tell you a little about custom cabinets. As I said in the beginning of this article I am a builder of custom and designer as well. When I am dealing directly with the homeowner, I can get an idea of their wants, needs and functions. Having designed, built and installed over a kitchen, I have a strong sense of practicality and not just work. I believe that before you can design a kitchen, you must have installed a kitchen years.
When designing a kitchen, try to use all available space without compromising ease of use. Because my cabinets is the custom, I do not use fillers. My top of the cabinet are on the ceiling without any beteween space, empty or 6 "stuffed. Wardrobes True always built to your specifications and not suggested by some manufacturers of spectacles.
In building my cabinets, I am able selecting the right hand and choice hardwood lumber. I use a 3 / 4 "prefinished birch plywood for my boxes with a 1 / 4" set back. My marks of the face are attached using wood glue (there is a reason that is "wood" tail and no "hot" glue) and jointery hole pocket. Also I kicked my toe separate from the cabinets, so they can be leveled easily and enjoyed (granite installers we want for this). Where possible, I build an Straight as one of the cabinets, cabinet, rather than building separate lockers. This looks much cleaner without all the seams together. I also install custom cabinets with a dash of conversion coating (top line of wood finishes), and of course that can be installed without end like this.
