What was the deal with Carl Pavano?
When they signed Pavano, he and his father were grinning from ear to ear, wearing pinstripes. Remember his father, saying how this was his dream come true for his son to play for the Yankees. Despite the injuries and all that, he appeared to me to be distant and disinterested the Yankees and baseball in general. Whats up???? Someone knows
I do not think I really cared for baseball, once signed his contract for $ 40 million with the Yankees. The Yankees were, and are frustrated with him because of injuries, but it's his attitude that turns off his teammates. The man has lost the last two seasons (except for two starts last season). Teammates, especially Mike Mussina, Pavano criticized for not wanting to pitch. He believed he could be released through injuries and had no desire to launch. He had a relatively minor problem in '05 and did not go beyond June. In '06, he hurt his back in spring training and went on the disabled list because of that, then had a series of problems in the arm. Then he got hurt car ride with his girlfriend in Florida and tried to cover it up. I think the last straw came in April. He was sure he needed shoulder surgery before the Yankees had examined him. He did need surgery, but it seemed as if he had already given up the season before he was sure. The Yankees made him wait a month and sent to a group of doctors before allowing undergo surgery, knowing that if he had, that probably miss all or most of '08 too. I think it's worst free-agent bust of all time. The sad part is to recover every penny of your money and the Yankees are only 5 wins.
