Why I am a size 6 in the regular-sized pants, but 26 jeans are too small?

I always thought pants size transferred to Jean size that the two are equivalent, except jeans were at 20 and the pants are in single digits. Am I wrong? If I am wrong, can anyone tell me the correct equivalent?
